ANTIQUE ULSTER KNIFE CO NY LOCKBACK FOLDING DIRK KNIFE, SWING GUARD POCKET KNIFE. Closed length: 5 and 3/8 inches. Open length: 9 and 5/8th inches. Up for sale is an extremely rare and desirable pattern by Ulster Knife Co of NY. This is a very large folding lockback with a swing guard and humpback lock. This knife is 5 and 3/8 inches CLOSED! Its a gorgeous large folder. This knife was made in the late 1800s to the early 1900s.

This knife pattern is desirable due to the small amounts produced, and the unique features this knife has. The handle covers are a beautiful reddish cocobolo wood, with a bar cartouche. The cocobolo is extremely uncommon as almost all of these were made with ebony.

The covers are in very good condition with no cracks. They have an amazing color that looks great with the knife, much more attractive than the ebony version in my opinion.

The knife locks with an interesting humpback midlock lockback. There is a hump that you depress in order to close the knife. The knife locks up well and has some wobble that is pretty typical for a lockback knife thats over 100 years old. The bolsters are still shiny, with minimal scratches and only a few very tiny dings.

There is also a folding swing guard that folds when the knife is closed and opens with the knife, providing a hand guard so your fingers dont slip onto the blade when in use. A very cool and uncommon feature. The swing guard has play when open which is very typical. The blade is in good shape overall with no chips in the edge. There is a nice patina across the blade that could be removed by the end user if desired.

A beautiful clip point blade that is nearly 4.5 inches long! The knife opens and locks fine and snaps well on close.

I cant say enough about this knife, its such a cool pattern and they rarely come up for sale. This one in particular would make for a great user. It would be a nice addition to an ulster collection, ebony collection, lockback collection, or just a nice rare old knife to carry around. Review pictures as supplement to text for condition.
