The blade is hand forged from imported European 1095 high carbon folded steel, over 1075 high carbon folded softer steel the differentially hardened blade is a very durable steel, and holds an excellent ha. The blade has never been used, as I ruptured a tendon in my ankle that has ended my serious blade wielding. For someone that wants a wall hanger, there are cheaper blades out there, but if you want a wall hanger that can severe a person from shoulder to the opposite waist, or. For upper level Tameshigiri/Budo/Iaido t. His one will do that. The tsuba is brass and the "tsuka" or handle and "saya" or scabbard are hand knotted wrapped around the full same-gawa or ray skin which wraps the wooden core. The saya is lacquered in black to a nice semi-gloss finish with a ray skin wrap near the mouth of the saya to strengthen this area and to add extra gripping capability when sweaty. Cambodian smiths that forged this are little known, but they are some of the best outside of Japan, using only the highest grade steels this side of Tamahagane, and certainly 10x better than the best made junk from China. The real cost here is the highend blade and the ray skin wrapped saya. This does have a cost reduction side, the small pieces and saya aren't perfectly fitted and if you look closely, you can see small gaps. Nothing that impedes drawing and cutting mats, bamboo, or intruders, but just reduces overall costs, as the nicer hand cut and fitted pieces can drive the price way up. When I received the blade it was sharp, but didn't meet my standards so between some TLC on a 30,000 grit wet stone, a leather stroup and fine grit metal polish, the edge has been polished to a good cutting level (large diameter bamboo). Please note I said good, not great, my straight razor has a great edge, but if you drop this blade, don't try to catch it as your fingers my hit the floor first.

This blade is designed to be very durable, due to the composition. The blade has a high carbon 1075 Swedish steel core to ensure optimal sharpness and ability to hold an edge, that is then encased in tough more brittle carbon composite 1095 Swedish steel that increases blade impact resistance. 1095 and 1075 steel are hand folded with 1024 layers each, then clay tempered and differentially hardened. The1075 steel is a superior, rugged, less brittle and higher carbon steel that MUST be wiped down after use and oiled as it will rust.

For those living in humid areas or during humid periods you must perform maintenance frequently. Hand forged and folded two part high carbon steel blade (1024 layers in each part). Clay tempered and water quenched. Blade Hardness 60 HRC(Edge) 65HRC(Body).

Ha has a burl wood type Itame-Hada. Shinogi-ji has a jewel steel like Masame-hada. Overall Length:103 cm/40.6 inch. Blade Length:73 cm/28.7 inch. Handle Length:27 cm/10.6 inch.

Blade Width:3.2 cm/1.26 inch. Blade Material:hand forged 1095 carbon steel + folded steel with clay tempered 1075 cutting edge. Saya Material: High quality hardwood + ray skin.

Handle Material: Ray skin + Hard wood. I will take any reasonable offer as I'm not trying to gouge anyone!
