Offered is an early rare knife. This from what I can surmise from all the research done including the knife club sites blog info I have read. Although it may even be an earlier knife than I have stated..
It retains its carved handle depicting Saint Christopher. The handle material is wood.
The knife measures 3.25 inches long closed and 5.25 inches when opened. It is a lock back by turning the ring at the base of the blade a quarter turn/90. In marvelous condition for its age... The blade has minor pitting and of course it has been sharpened at some point in its life.
When closing it still has partial or a slight hinge action. There is file work on the back side of the blade. I can find no makers mark. I would venture to state this is a one of a kind knife and a must have for any serious knife collection.
Rarer than any factory made knife or case knife of any kind, by far. What I do know about knives is this, rarity, eye appeal and craftsmanship is everything when determining the value of a knife. This knife not only has eye appeal but simply due to its age, I would think this in itself should make it quite rare and it was obviously made well enough to last some 350+ years now.
I think that should cover the craftsmanship part to a T. I don't know what else to say about this marvelous piece of art, other than if you are interested in the knife and would like to have it in your collection, simply make an offer... I listed this knife to sell, not for show and tell. People like to haggle so...
