Vintage Antique Sheehan Sheffield Folding Dirk Pocket Knife-1800s PEARL BOLSTERS. Up for sale is an incredible and rare folding dirk with PEARL BOLSTERS made in Sheffield England in the 1850-60s.

This knife is absolutely gorgeous. It is made by Sheehan in the mid 1800s. Most knives of this style were made during the civil war era. This particular knife is nice and large and in great condition.

The knife is over 5 inches closed and features gorgeous Buffalo horn handle covers with 3 Pearl disc inlays and large solid Pearl caps/bolsters. This is EXTREMELY rare to see on a knife. Ive been collecting for years and this is the first one Ive ever seen in person. The covers are in great shape with no cracks or chips in the horn or Pearl. There is a bug bite that has been repaired on the pile side.

The Pearl is absolutely gorgeous and has many different colors present from reds, greens, blue, etc. I cant stress enough how unique it is to see a knife with Pearl caps such as this. The blade measuring at 4 and 3/8th inches long, is in fantastic shape.

It features a gorgeous patina and has no pitting. The blade also has no sharpening loss and retains its original shape.

The spring is somewhat weak, however it does snap closed and locks open with wobble. It wobbles minimally side to side and more so up and down. It will slip if enough pressure is used. In the closed position it snaps shut, but the blade moves a bit in the handle. Minimally however, only allowing the blade tip to be exposed about 1/8th of an inch.

It would not open in your pocket. Overall this is an absolutely amazing and rare early knife and you will be very hard pressed to find another like it. Its in very good shape overall considering its age and would make a stunning display piece or addition to a civil war collection or display.
