This is a Cattaraugus Model No. 12099-L 1-Blade Large Folding Hunter "The DEER SLAYER" Jack Knife.
This is the one with the liner-lock. The knife has a single unused and unsharpened, 3 1/2 long, carbon steel clip point blade with a common nail pull. Both faces have no more than a few specks.
Both faces still retain most of their original factory finish and it still has its original factory edge. The front face of the blade was originally etched with The The DEER SLAYER but has worn away over the years as do most blade etchings. Stamped on the front tang is CATTARAUGUS (in a straight line) (over) CUTLERY CO (over) LITTLE VALLEY (over) N.
Stamped on the rear tang is the Cattaraugus Model No. The blade has a hard loud "watch your fingers" snap on open and close. The knife has a gorgeous set of medium brown jigged and worm grooved bovine bone scales. They do have a single center pin crack on the rear scale that I initially missed. Pretty hard to see with my naked eye but it may be visible with yours. If you can't see it then just blow up pic 2. It runs from the bottom center pin southwest at a 45° angle down to the bottom liner. Even with this flaw it's still a great specimen of the hard to find 12099-L.
Other than this one flaw the rest of the scales are free of any other cracks, splits, missing chips or missing slivers. There are three (3) brass handle pins in each scale. The knife has very brightly polished nickel silver rounded bolsters and end caps. They're free of any dents or dings and no more that a few hard to see inconsequential scratches.
The knife has brightly polished brass liners and a brass liner-lock, or spring-lock, that locks the blade in place when fully open. The liner-lock is stamped PATENTED (over) JULY 3, 1906. It has a single heavy duty steel back spring and it's free of any cracks or breaks. It still continues to perform the functions it was designed to perform.
